A RV trip in the name of freedom
November 2, 2019

Africa: where the journey of man began, where nature gave rise to a variety of living landscapes and forms of shocking beauty, where the rites and traditions of millennial civilizations accompany everyday life and fascinate travelers. Africa: you will love it. You've been warned. (Cit. Lonely planet).
A trip to Africa southwest of the coast in the wonderful land of Namibia is fascinating you have the feeling of going back to your origins, we will see crazy landscapes, we will discover nature, we will see animals in their natural environment free, we will see the starry sky and the milky way as never seen... we will see and we will be happy to make you dream with our photographs and stories.
Planning a route if you have never done so can be very difficult, the motivations can be varied, such as the km to travel between places, sometimes you even get to make over 500 km and the roads not only the most optimal, route times, park closure times. Today fortunately we have internet, forums, specialized sites where they help you a lot, and if you want people like me who have visited Namibia for 10 years and know well and can give useful advice and some tips ...
During the tour you have to take into account the unexpected, such as piercing a tire, or breaking the power steering, this because the roads are for the greater dirt and the driving speed must be very slow in some sections, it can be difficult because you can have difficulty in helping someone since there is not a huge traffic.
Why did I call this trip to the banner of freedom? I remember as a boy when you left with a backpack, camping or car, carefree ready for new adventures.
And this is going to be a great adventure... full of surprises... after 10 years I decided to see Namibia with a camper tour and not with the comfortable facilities of the Lodges that are beyond the primordial contact... many are campers and I hope to make many friends and share wonderful moments... all this with a reliable travel companion and ready for any situation...
Our journey starts on March 28, 2020 and ends on April 23, 2020, but the beating heart is from March 30 to April 21, what will be done with the RV.
For the preparation of the trip we chose to fly with Klm which has a good price/scale ratio , unfortunately to have the low price we had to leave 2 days before the tour and 1 day after the return of the RV.
the camper was rented on the website www.drivesouthafrica.com, they were very kind especially regarding payment for paper problems and they waited a few days.
The various camp-sites were booked directly from their sites paying by credit card.
We arrive the day before in Windhoek spending a night in Johannesburg taking an internal flight on March 29, we rented a car, and the first commitment is to do a proper shopping and organize with the RV.
In Windhoek there is the spar food chain, a bit like in Italy, there is everything, but we, as a precaution in the duffel bag, brought pasta and something else that maybe we do not find in Namibia for different eating habits, all inside a shopping mall with various shops and also for camping equipment, here we use a lot the camping tour , and we will see if we need something besides what we already have, especially for the braii that is the BBQ here very much in use, almost a cult I would say, so we do not waste too much time the next day and we can devote ourselves to our main activity and goal of the trip... photography and finally reach the first travel destination by starting this unforgettable adventure.
Our luggage and a few things, having seen that we can wash clothes and in a very short time are dry, while for the bags we preferred to use the soft ones so that we can store them without taking up space in the RV, everything has to be thought out and optimized.
I've seen that almost all camp-sites have electric current to recharge their RV batteries, cell phone batteries, cameras, kettles and tools to clean clothes with ultrasound and whatnot.
I will try to update the site daily, where possible with wi-fi the travel diary with photos and stories. See you on March 28, 2020... we leave.
